Holding a master's degree in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaking engagement and has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Interested in issues concerning gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at university. She had a plan to launch an internet series on gender representation in games, and was then the victim of a harassment campaign online. However the attack could have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and founded Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
