Biles lived in Spring Texas in the Houston metropolitan area after she and her sister Adria were adopted by their grandparents Ronald Biles and Nellie Biles. Simone initially became interested in the sport of gymnastics when she was just six. Her instructor Aimee Borman took her to Bannon's Gymnastix and they took them on a field trip. Biles won a gold in the floor exercise as well as a bronze in vault during the Women's Junior Olympic National Championships in 2010 before breaking into the elite levels of competition in 2011. Within less than two years she was the very best in her class. What distinguished Biles out was her constancy her flamboyant attitude and the level of challenge she incorporated into her routines at every event - vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercises.
